Hindu Nationalism Beyond Electoral Politics: Social Control and Cultural Policing, with Special reference to Gujarat
Author:
Description: While the BJP is loosing ground electorally - at least in some of its North Indian strongholds -, the Sangh parivar continues its work at the grassroots level. This groundwork is changing though, since the creation of the Bajrang Dal. The RSS complex has indeed acquired an additional dimension, the BD targeting in a rather violent manner not only Muslims and Christians, but also "deviant" Hindus who do not observe the "traditions" of the majoritarity community. Such developments are especially evident in Gujarat, but can be seen in other states where the BJP is in office, such as Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
