Distributive Politics in Electoral and Legislative Politics
Description: This conference follows up on previous conferences pushing along the dialog between Americanists and comparativists studying distributive politics. One intriguing theme that warrants further development is the role of mobilization, and particularly the way communal monitoring increases the costs to politicians of catering to swing voters. Legislative bargaining raises some similar issues, on the circumstances in which parties cater to core or swing legislators in allocating resources.
